The Permian–Triassic boundary section at Baghuk Mountain, Central Iran: carbonate microfacies and depositional environment

چکیده

Abstract Sections at Baghuk Mountain, 45 km NNW of Abadeh (Central Iran), have excellent exposures fossiliferous marine Late Permian to Early Triassic sedimentary successions. Detailed bed-by-bed sampling enables the analysis microfacies changes three successive rock units across Permian–Triassic boundary. The Hambast Formation is mainly result biogenic carbonate production. Its dominated by biogen-rich and bioturbated nodular limestones, indicating a well-oxygenated aphotic dysphotic environment. biogen-dominated factory in ceased simultaneously with main mass extinction pulse, which marked sharp contact between Hambast-Formation overlaying Member (= ‘Boundary Clay’). clay silt deposits some beds show only few signs bioturbation or relics benthic communities. Claraia Beds are characterised partly microbially induced production, indicated frequent microbialite structures. depositional environment does not provide evidence large amplitude sea level subaerial exposure during boundary interval. deposition Mountain sediments took place deep shelf environment, most time below storm wave base.

Sequence stratigraphy and depositional environment of the Oligocene deposits at Firozabad section, southwest of Iran based on microfacies analysis

The Asmari Formation was deposited in the foreland basin of southwest Iran (Zagros Basin). Carbonate sequences of the Asmari Formation consist mainly of large benthic foraminifera along with other skeletal and non-skeletal components. Three assemblage zones have been recognized by distribution of these large foraminifera in the study area that indicate Oligocene age (Rupelian-Chattian). Absence...

MICROFACIES, DEPOSITIONAL ENVIRONMENT, AND DIAGENETIC PROCESSES OF THE MAUDDUD MEMBER, IN THE PERSIAN GULF

Mauddud member with the age of late Albian to Cenomanian is equivalent to the lower Sarvak formation in the southern Persian Gulf and adjacent area. In this work, microfacies, depositional environment, and diagenetic processes affected the Mauddud member in a field in the Persian Gulf are investigated. Based on the studies of available cores and thin sections of 3 wells, five types of microfaci...

Microfacies analysis and depositional environment of the Fahliyan Formation (Lower Cretaceus), Abadan plain, West South of Iran (Arvand-field)

The Fahliyan Formation of Khami Group is hosting important hydrocarbon reserves in Iran and also is a main reservoir rock in the Abadan Plain oil fields which is Neocomian in age. In the studied wells its thickness is about 406 meters. In the Abadan Plain, the Fahliyan Formation transitionally overlies of the Garau Formation and its upper boundary changes into the Gadvan Formation. According to...

Middle to Upper Triassic (Upper Ladinian to Lower Carnian) deep-sea sedimentary rocks crop out across a large area west of Nakhlak village, Central Iran and have been named Ashin Formation. The up to 304m thick, turbiditic, siliciclastic Ashin Formation consists of alternating turbiditic, thin- and medium-bedded calcareous sandstones, purple, fine-grained volcaniclastic sandstones, and mostly g...
